At about 30.2 million km² (11.7 million sq mi) including adjacent islands, it covers 6% of the Earth's total surface area and 20.4% of the total land area. With a billion people (as of 2009, see table) in 61 territories, it accounts for about 14.8% of the World's human population. The continent is surrounded by the Mediterranean Sea to the north, the Suez Canal and the Red Sea to the northeast, the Indian Ocean to the southeast, and the Atlantic Ocean to the west. Not counting the disputed territory of Western Sahara, there are 53 countries, including Madagascar and various island groups, associated with the continent. Africa, particularly central eastern Africa, is widely regarded within the scientific community to be the origin of humans and the Hominidae tree (great apes), as evidenced by the discovery of the earliest hominids and their ancestors, as well as later ones that have been dated to around seven million years ago – including Sahelanthropus tchadensis, Australopithecus africanus, A. afarensis, Homo erectus, H. habilis and H. ergaster – with the earliest Homo sapiens (human) found in Ethiopia being dated to ca. 200,000 years ago. Africa straddles the equator and encompasses numerous climate areas; it is the only continent to stretch from the northern temperate to southern temperate zones. From Wikipedia under the

Q. I think the misery in Africa became a great market to sell products and to promote celebreties. Feeding the starvation may had become a much better option than ending with it. We can't forget there is New Orleans here too. Asked by robb10036 - Mon Feb 5 01:40:09 2007 - - 3 Answers - 1 Comments A. showing starving people helps to gain sympathy to sell products. They will never end poverty and hunger, it sells too much. Answered by NONAME - Mon Feb 5 05:32:36 2007 What is an appropriate salary for a nun in West Africa that is running an elementary school? Q. What is an appropriate salary for a nun in West Africa that is running an elementary school? All room and board will be paid for, so what salary in addition to room and board is appropriate? Asked by ErinBrowne - Mon Jul 13 09:09:49 2009 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments A. In Roman Catholicism, a nun is a female monastic who has taken solemn vows (the male equivalent is a "monk"). Nuns are cloistered to the degree established by the rule of the religious institution they enter. In the Roman Catholic tradition, there are a number of different orders of nuns each with its own charism or special character. In general, when a woman enters a convent she first undergoes an initial period of testing the life, known as postulancy, for a period of six months to a year. If she, and the order, determine that she may have a vocation to the life, she receives the habit of the order (usually with some modification to distinguish her from professed nuns) and undertakes the novitiate, a period (that lasts one to two years) [cont.] Answered by Galactic Emperor - Mon Jul 13 13:53:20 2009 What was the meteorological condition in Africa 2 million years ago?
Q. Is there a website where I can see how the conditions were all over the world 2 million years ago, specifically Africa. Thanks. Asked by unknown - Thu Sep 11 06:15:30 2008 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments A. 2 million years ago falls in the late Pliocene (which extends from 5.3 to 1.8 Ma.) This was a period of extremely cool weather, ice ages, and glaciers. Also of note is that during this time Africa collided with Europe to form the Mediterranean Sea.
