South America (Spanish: América del Sur or Sudamérica; Portuguese: América do Sul; English: South America; Dutch: Zuid-Amerika; French: Amérique du Sud) is the southern continent of America, situated in the Western Hemisphere and mostly in the Southern Hemisphere, with a relatively small portion in the Northern Hemisphere. It is bordered on the west by the Pacific Ocean and on the north and east by the Atlantic Ocean; North America and the Caribbean Sea lie to the northwest. America was named in 1507 by cartographers Martin Waldseemüller and Matthias Ringmann after Amerigo Vespucci, who was the first European to suggest that the lands newly discovered by Europeans were not India, but a New World unknown to Europeans. South America has an area of 17,840,000 square kilometers (6,890,000 sq mi), or almost 3.5% of the Earth's surface. As of 2005, its population was estimated at more than 371,090,000. South America ranks fourth in area (after Asia, Africa, and North America) and fifth in population (after Asia, Africa, Europe, and North America). From Wikipedia under the

A friend and myself are heading off to travel south America for a year in Feb. We already have a flight from the UK to Los Angeles to see fiends and now we are looking for a flight from there, (LAX) to South America for around the 10th ish of Feb Question is which destination in south america would be cheapest to fly to in South America? Cheapest option we are finding at the moment is to LIMA, PERU coming in at around $366 on way Is this a good price? Asked by ElComandante - Tue Dec 2 16:47:59 2008 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments A. I flew London-Madrid-Lima for 420 two years back,so $366 from LA sounds a bit high. Lima's fine, but downtown can be dodgy, especially at night. Carry your bag in front, not behind. Local trick of slitting it,inserting a drugs packet, then a cop stops you for 'routine' search. Cash on the spot or prison is the threat. Nasty trick. OK daytime in busy parts, but take good care. Look at Miraflores for a place to stay. Classy, much safer, still cheap.couple of miles out from the centre but good buses, cheap taxis. Girls out jogging in the mornings, people walking dogs, even skateboarders...quite cute so far from home. Plenty of roomsGuesthouses, small hotels (hostals),or Radisson if you want top class. Fine area. Q. Im planning a trip through South America and need to know what documentation is required, do I need a separate document for each country? Asked by capdaddy81 - Sun Feb 17 14:56:46 2008 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments A. You will need a VISA for Brazil. Costs $100.00. If you are a US Citizen (others too maybe, I dont know) All you will need is your passport and an onward ticket. Id suggest avoiding NIcaraugua. Its poor, its dangerous, the women are generally not pretty and they are very leftist.
